The General Secretary Father Paul Rouhana visits Egypt
The General Secretary Father Paul Rouhana of the Middle East Council of Churches paid His First visit to Egypt during the second week of January 2012. He was escorted by a delegation from the MECC Office in Cairo, where he met with the Church leaders in Egypt.
His First Visit was to H.H. Pope Shenouda III Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, followed by a visit to Rev. Dr. Safawat El Bayaadi, head of the Evangelical Church in Egypt, and some of the Evangelical Church Leaders. Later, he visited H.G. Anba Youhanna Kolta the Patriarch Deputy of the Catholic Church, who carried wishes for Patriarch Antonios Naguib for a speedy recovery. Shortly afterwards, there was a visit to the Vatican Ambassador followed by a number of meetings with the Council Executive Committee members in Egypt, the Youth Ecumenical Committee and the (WSCF) World Christian Students Federation, to plan for future activities for the youth. The visit was concluded by a meeting with Cairo Office staff members to discuss and plan the work structure in the Council for the coming period.
Before his return to Beirut, Father Paul Rouhana convened a press conference in the Papal Residence in Abbassyia. He expressed his hope that all the member churches would support the vision and objectives of the Council and its programs, by offering their human, intellectual and material resources to further deepen the Christian presence in the Middle East.
