Father Mikhael Kanbar Elected as New Executive Secretary for the Association of Theological Institutes in the Middle East (ATIME)

The Association of Theological Institutes in the Middle East (ATIME), held on Thursday, January 27, 2022, an online meeting that gathered the deans of the faculties and institutes and their representatives from Egypt, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. It was organized in the presence of the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches Dr. Michel Abs, and the Director of the MECC theological and Ecumenical Department Father Antoine Al Ahmar.

The meeting was presided by Father Tanios Khalil, President of the Association, and Dean of the Faculty of Religious and Theological Sciences at Université La Sagesse in Beirut, and moderated by Father Dr. Bassam Nassif, Acting Executive Secretary. During the meeting, Father Mikhael Elias Kanbar was elected as new ATIME Executive Secretary.

Father Kanbar is a diocesan priest from the Maronite Archdiocese of Tyre. He is married and has two children. He holds a Ph.D in religious sciences from Saint Joseph University in Beirut. Father Kanbar is also a lecturer in many universities in Lebanon and a professor of Ecclesiastical history at Université La Sagesse.

We congratulate the Association’s members on the election of its new Executive Secretary, and we wish Father Kanbar success in his blessed service, especially in coordinating with the deans, preparing zealous pastors for the ecumenical work and responding to the call of Jesus Christ so all his disciples may be one.
