Dr. Peter Makari and a Delegation from Global Ministries of the Christian Church and the United Church of Christ Visiting the Middle East Council of Churches
On his first tour in the Middle East following the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the Executive Director of the international organizations, Global Ministries of the Christian Church and the United Church of Christ, in the Middle East and Europe, Dr. Peter Makari visited the headquarters of the MECC General Secretariat in Beirut, on Monday, June 6, 2022, with a delegation that included the Associate General Minister and Co-Executive of Global Ministries Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson, and the President of the Division of Overseas and Co-Executive of Global Ministries Rev. Marco Cable. MECC Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs welcomed them alongside with the General Secretariat's team.
The meeting began with an introductory session between the delegation of Global Ministries of the Christian Church and the United Church of Christ and the MECC team who thanked Makari for his continuous support, as an MECC partner, to the Council's activities and programs in order to embody its mission and achieve the desired goals. In addition, everyone participated in an Arabic and English prayer on the occasion of the Commemoration of the 4 Evangelists, celebrated according to the Catholic Church calendar, on June 2.
Afterwards, the Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs held a meeting with Makari and the delegation, and the directors of the MECC departments. An overview about the critical situations that the region is passing through was presented, in addition to the programs being implemented in order to meet the urgent needs. The participants also exchanged their experiences and discussed ways to develop the work mechanisms aiming at more sustainable cooperation and partnership.
