The MECC Secretary General Professor Michel Abs Meets with His Eminence Sheikh Rabih Koubayssi

Emphasizing on the Need to Uphold Human Dignity and Preserve Social Unity

The Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Professor Michel Abs received His Eminence Sheikh Rabih Koubayssi, Secretary of the Islamic-Christian Meeting in Tyre, Lebanon, and Specialist in Muslim-Christian Relations from the Saint Joseph University (USJ) in Beirut, in the presence of the Journalist Lea Adel Maamary, Media and Church Relations Coordinator at MECC. The meeting took place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the MECC headquarters in Beirut.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the work of the Middle East Council of Churches, particularly in promoting dialogue and strengthening the values of love and fraternity among all segments of society through various Ecumenical, Theological, humanitarian, social, and media programs.

Both sides also discussed the importance of defending human rights and preserving human dignity by supporting, accompanying, and empowering people to face challenges with deep faith and great hope. As well as, emphasis was placed on the necessity of serving unity and social cohesion in order to achieve truth, justice, and the desired peace.

It is worth noting that His Eminence Sheikh Rabih Koubayssi’s visit was part of his participation in an episode of the "Ecumenical Horizons" program, produced by the Middle East Council of Churches. During the episode, he spoke with the Journalist Lea Adel Maamary about his experience in coexistence that qualified him to receive the Adyan Award for Global Human Solidarity for 2024. His Eminence also highlighted the meanings of the visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Lebanon and its importance today.
