The Middle East Council of Churches Participates in the Symposium

"The Status and Role of Women in Christianity and Islam"

Within the framework of the “Cooperation Protocol”, the “Meeting for Religious and Social Dialogue” and the “Lebanese Council of Women” organized a symposium entitled "The Status and Role of Women in Christianity and Islam" on Tuesday, May 23, 2025, at the Auditorium of the Child and Mother Welfare Association in Beirut.

Attendees were the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Professor Michel Abs, represented by Dr. Laure Abi Khalil, the Coordinator of the MECC "Dialogue, Social Cohesion and Human Dignity" Program, along with intellectuals, researchers, experts, and interested people.

The symposium included speeches delivered by Ms. Adla Siblini Zein, the President of the Lebanese Council of Women, and by Dr. Mustafa Al-Hilweh, the Secretary of the Meeting for Religious and Social Dialogue.

This is in addition to interventions by His Eminence Archbishop Youssef Soueif, Archbishop of the Maronite Diocese of Tripoli and President of the Episcopal Committee for Ecumenical Work at the Assemblée des Patriarches et Evêques Catholiques du Liban (APECL) in Lebanon, and His Eminence Mufti Dr. Malek Al-Shaar, the Former Mufti of Tripoli and the North.

The speeches emphasized the importance of women's role in building and developing societies, as well as the necessity of empowering them and protecting their rights for the good of humanity.

The symposium was moderated by Professor Batoul Yahfoufi and introduced by Professor Najwa Abou Zeki Beaini.
