The MECC Media Team Participates in A Workshop Organized by Abaad Foundation
“Media Coverage Taking into Account the Social Role of Issues Related to Violence Against Women and Girls”
Believing in the importance of capacity building and skill development, the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) strives at every new opportunity to empower its team and expand the scope of its work. Therefore, the MECC media team participated in a workshop organized by “Abaad” Foundation, entitled “Media Coverage Taking into Account the Social Role of Issues Related to Violence Against Women and Girls” for journalists and content creators from various Arab countries.
The five-day course, held from May 5 to 9, 2025, in Beirut, included many interactive and practical sessions that bridged distances between participants and enhanced their knowledge on various social topics.
The sessions focused on the basic concepts of social roles and gender-based violence, the ecological model for analyzing gender-based violence among journalist, and the concept and principles of intersectionality. This is in addition to human rights-based approach, the ethics and principles of journalistic and media work, and dealing with disclosure cases. It also addressed a transformative approach to issues related to social roles and media coverage from a social role perspective.
At the end, the participants met with Abaad's Founder and Executive Director Mrs. Ghida Anani, and each one of them received a certificate of participation. Noting that the workshop provided participants with the opportunity to exchange views, experiences, and cultures on various issues they face in their communities.
