“Leaders and Positions” Program… A Media Interview with His Eminence Bishop Thomas Adly About the Coptic Catholic Church and the Future of Ecumenism

The Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) held a media interview with His Eminence Bishop Thomas Adly, Bishop of the Coptic Catholic Diocese of Giza, Fayoum, and Beni Suef, and a Member of the MECC Executive Committee, as part of the “Leaders and Positions” program. The interview sheds light on the Coptic Catholic Church and its role in the Middle East, in addition to his vision for the future of the Ecumenical work, the challenges that the Churches are facing, as well as the people of the region.
The interview was conducted by the Journalist Lea Adel Maamary, Coordinator of Media and Church Relations at MECC. The episode explored His Eminence Bishop Thomas Adly’s experience and his journey within the Middle East Council of Churches, his role in Ecumenical work, and the importance of strengthening common Christian witness amid the crises and growing challenges that the region is facing.
The interview also addressed the Church’s mission to preserve its presence and witness in the East, based on its calling to serve the human person, safeguard human dignity, promote dialogue, peace, and coexistence, while emphasizing the importance of cooperation among Churches in confronting current challenges and building bridges of communication and mutual understanding.
The interview was held in recognition of the role played by the Coptic Catholic Church, with its authentic Coptic heritage and Catholic identity within the Christian fabric of the Middle East, as well as its participation in the journey of Ecumenical dialogue and efforts to strengthen common Christian witness.
The media team of the Catholic Media Office in Egypt filmed the interview as part of media cooperation among Church institutions and organizations, and to highlight the issues of concern to the Churches of the region and their role in serving people and society.
At the end of the interview, the Journalist Lea Adel Maamary presented a commemorative shield to His Eminence Bishop Bakhoum, Patriarchal Vicar for the Affairs of the Patriarchal Eparchy and Head of the Office, in appreciation of his cooperation and contributions to serving the media mission, as well as the efforts of the office’s team.
The commemorative shield was received on behalf of Bishop Bakhoum by His Eminence Bishop Thomas Adly, in a gesture expressing the Middle East Council of Churches’ appreciation for its continued cooperation with the Catholic Media Office in Egypt and for the office’s role in supporting the Church’s media mission.
