His Grace Bishop Makary, General Bishop of South Shoubra, Receives the MECC Secretary General Professor Michel Abs and the Council's Delegation in Cairo

For the sixth consecutive day, the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Professor Michel Abs continued his visits to the Church and Religious authorities in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and his participation in the 2026 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.
Professor Michel Abs and the Council's delegation visited His Grace Bishop Makary, General Bishop of South Shoubra, at his office in Cairo.
The Council's delegation included Reverend Refaat Fikry, Associate Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), Coordinator of Dialogue, Social Cohesion, and Human Dignity Programs Professor Laure Abi Khalil, and Coordinator of Church Relations and Media at the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Journalist Lea Adel Maamary.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the Council's role and the programs and activities it implements through all its departments and offices.
They also discussed joint activities that could be executed with Churches and other institutions, particularly concerning dialogue and other related topics.
His Grace Bishop Makary also gave a detailed presentation about his Diocese and the activities carried out by Churches and Parishes on various occasions.
Secretary General Professor Michel Abs offered to His Grace the two new MECC publications, available on its digital platforms. The first publication includes 23 seminars and roundtables organized by the Dialogue, Social Cohesion, and Rehabilitation of Human Dignity Program.
The second publication prepared by the Council's Theological and Ecumenical Department, is entitled “Towards a Common Date for Easter”, the Aleppo Statement 1997 in Arabic.
