Honoring Reverend Dr. Habib Badr and His Wife Mrs. Wadia Badr, in the Presence of Church Leaders and Ecumenical Partners
The MECC Secretary General Professor Michel Abs Participates in the Celebration
In recognition of their distinguished journey and many years of Church ministry, a ceremony was held to honor Reverend Dr. Habib Badr, President of the National Evangelical Union in Lebanon, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), and his wife Mrs. Wadia Badr. The event was attended by Leaders from Evangelical Churches in the Middle East, Representatives of Church Families, Ecumenical Partners, His Eminence Archbishop Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Beirut, and Delegate of the Executive Committee of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) to the Diakonia and Social Service Department, the Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) Professor Michel Abs, and his wife Dr. Frida Haddad. It took place on Friday, June 26, 2026, at the National Evangelical Church in Beirut.
The ceremony opened with a Prayer, followed by a speech on behalf of the National Evangelical Church in Beirut (NECB) delivered by the Secretary of the Church Council Dr. George Sabra. As well as, Mrs. Zeena Lee Ayoub, Treasurer of the Helping Hand Society, also addressed the gathering. In addition, Reverend Dr. Joseph Kassab, President of the Supreme Synod of the Evangelical Community in Syria and Lebanon, and Member of the Executive Committee of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) delivered a speech.
Following a musical performance entitled "My Soul Magnifies the Lord Almighty," composed by Reverend Dr. Habib Badr, words were delivered by Reverend Dr. Paul Haidostian, President of the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE), President of Haigazian University in Lebanon, and President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) for the Evangelical Family; and Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki, President of the Evangelical Church in Egypt, President of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS), and President of the Fellowship of Middle East Evangelical Churches.
The program also included greetings from Ecumenical Partners, including Dr. Peter Makari on behalf of Global Ministries, United Church of Christ (USA), and Reverend Dr. Uwe Gräbe on behalf of the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), Germany.
The celebration also featured a family tribute delivered by Mrs. Eva Badr Ayyash, and a speech by the Reverend Dr. Rima Nasrallah, as well as many hymns.
At the end, a word was delivered by Reverend Dr. Habib Badr and his wife Mrs. Wadia Badr.
