While coronavirus numbers seem to be stabilizing across the region with the exception of Lebanon, the World Health Organization warned that at least 13 ME countries have been infiltrated by three new COVID strains. As reported by the WHO, all three of the new variants are more contagious, requiring all people to exercise precautionary measures.

With the vaccination drive beginning in many ME countries, the economy might finally start to untangle itself. Yet, discrepancies were observed in some countries as socioeconomic standards of the population or government inability to provide the vaccine, might stop them from getting vaccinated.

When churches closed their doors to the believers while they were in dire need of assuaging their spiritual thirst facing the threat of the Coronavirus and the imposed quarantine, a religious issue was brought up: Is our relationship with God threated?

While the world experiences emergency measures for more than a year, trying to curb the deadly virus, the answer came through modern media, which sought to present the essence of Christian beliefs, especially during holidays and their rituals, accompanying believers during these difficult times.

More than a year has passed and the virus still threatens humanity, especially those struggling to survive in the sad East. In light of dangerous economic and social collapses topped by serious political conflicts putting the region on the edge of a cliff, the Coronavirus was the icing on the cake, adding to the misery, deepening wounds and increasing the pain with thousands of victims and infected daily.

And when we shout together “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”, we hear his voice calming the storm around us and saying “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4 : 35-40

Since 2020, February 4th is no longer just another day, now it represents an international call to end violence and hatred hostile speeches… it is now a day that reminds us of our fraternity no matter our nationality, ethnicity, society or religion… it is an invitation to work towards peace, justice and stability… hoping to live the rest of our days by the command of Jesus Christ “Love one another as I have loved you.” John 34:13.

As dire socioeconomic conditions grip the country, victims of the Beirut blast are still being affected the most. The Norwegian Refugee Council warned in a statement on its website, of a new wave of homeless people, 6 months after the Beirut explosion.

Cuando se trata de encontrar la verdad, Líbano no es el único país que sufre la burocracia. Dos altos parlamentarios británicos pidieron que se investigara una empresa registrada en el Reino Unido probablemente relacionada con la explosión de Beirut. Pidieron a las autoridades del Reino Unido que la investiguen, dado que parece que se ha presentado información inexacta.

When comes to finding the truth, Lebanon is not the only country to suffer from red tape. Two senior British parliamentarians called for an investigation into a British-registered company probably related to the Beirut blast. They called upon UK authorities to investigate it, given inaccurate information appears to have been filed.

Well-coordinated communication support to the fellowship, has been – and still is – pivotal in addressing this situation”, says WCC Communication Director, Marianne Ejdersten and added “Communications from the WCC must be inclusive and have participation and hope at their core. Our task is to ignite hope for a better world where human dignity prevails.”
