His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II Consecrates Emm Nour (Mother of Light) Cathedral in Erbil
On October 12, 2025, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church of the World, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), consecrated Emm Nour (Mother of Light) Cathedral in Erbil.
His Holiness was assisted by their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, Archbishop of Mosul, Kirkuk, Kurdistan and Environs, Mor Justinus Boulos Safar, Patriarchal Vicar of Zahleh and Beqaa, Mor Timotheos Moussa Al-Shamani, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mor Matta Monastery, Mor Athanasius Touma Dakkama, Patriarchal Vicar of the United Kingdom, Mor Anthimos Jack Yacoub, Patriarchal Vicar of Jerusalem, Jordan and the Holy Land, Mor Yacoub Babawi, Patriarchal Vicar for Monks Affairs and the Administration of Mor Aphrem Theological Seminary in Maarat Saydnaya, Mor Augeen Al-Khoury Nemat, Patriarchal Secretary, and Mor Youhanon Lahdo, Archbishop of Sweden and Scandinavia.
His Excellency Mr. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Government of the Kurdistan Region, attended the inauguration. His Beatitude Cardinal Mar Louis Sako, Chaldean Patriarch, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), as well as representatives from other churches, were also present.
