Commemoration of the 1700th Anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in Cairo

Under the auspices of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, and His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea was celebrated on May 17 and 18, 2025, at the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate in Cairo and at the Great St. Mark’s Cathedral.

The celebration included meetings among the Oriental Orthodox Churches in the Middle East, a joint liturgy, and a spiritual concert.

His Holiness Catholicos Aram I emphasized the historical significance of the First Ecumenical Council, highlighting its foundational role in Orthodox Christianity and the importance of the Nicene Creed.

With the blessing of His Holiness, the event was attended by HE Arch. Gomidas Ohanian, HE Arch. Nareg Alemezian, HE Arch. Shahan Sarkissian, HE Arch. Shahe Panossian, HE Arch. Magar Ashkarian, HE Arch. Mesrob Sarkissian, HE Arch. Torkom Donoyan, HG Bishop Sahag Yemishian, HG Bishop Bedros Manuelian, HG Bishop Dajad Ashekian, V. Rev. Fr. Hovaguim Panjarjian, V. Rev. Fr. Oshin Tchvalertanian, and V. Rev. Fr. Sarkis Aprahamian.
