JERUSALEM - After several months of work, the Latin Patriarchate's Liturgical Office, in cooperation with the Christ the King Bookstore, recently published its new manual on serving the altar for all parishes in the diocese.

What does serving the Mass entail? Who can do it? What are the different ranks of an altar server? Who organizes the role of each? And how can an altar server be prepared? Until now, the answers to these questions were more or less defined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the priest, seminarian, sister or lay leader of each parish.

JERUSALEM - From January 22 to January 30, 2022, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity took place in Jerusalem, giving the many Churches of the Holy City the opportunity to receive and honor representatives of other Churches in a common prayer.

Last year, the strict sanitary measures applied in the Holy Land forced the Churches of Jerusalem to postpone this week of prayer until Pentecost, in union with the Churches of the southern hemisphere.

The International Day of Human Fraternity was set up by the UN General Assembly to commemorate the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together by His Holiness Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, in Abu Dhabi on 4 February 2019.

Between January 26th and 28th, 2022, the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches was held online. On behalf of the Armenian Church, Holy See of Cilicia Bishop Magar Ashkarian and V. Rev. Boghos Tinkjian (co-secretary) participated in the Dialogue.

His Holiness Pope Francis made that affirmation in his February prayer intention, released on Tuesday by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network.

On Monday, January 24th, 2022, a gathering of the Cilician Brotherhood residing in Antelias was held in the main hall of the Armenian Catholicosate in Antelias, presided by His Holiness Catholicos of Cilicia Aram I.

During the gathering, His Holiness Aram I informed the brotherhood on the activities and events to take place within the proclamation of 2022 as the year of the Armenian Diaspora.

JERUSALEM - As life resumes in Jerusalem after the snowfall on Wednesday, January 26th 2022, His Beatitude Mgr Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, visited the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem for the traditional exchange of greetings after the Christmas season.

On the calendar, the Armenians celebrate Christmas on January 19th. In keeping with the now well-established tradition, His Beatitude Mgr Pizzaballa thus visited the Armenian Patriarchate.

“Ecumenism in a Time of Pandemic: From Crisis to Opportunity” is the title of a working document presented by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, and which is the result of a survey conducted in 2021 among all the Bishops' Conferences and Eastern Catholic Synods in the world.

THE Lebanese are hoping that in 2022 there will be a change in the country’s fortunes after several years of worsening economic, social, and political chaos. So far, however, there are no signs of the turnaround that the country is longing for.
