A Health Awareness Training for Women in Sabtiyye | Lebanon

The MECC Diakonia department in Lebanon organized a health awareness training at its “Our Lady Dispensary” in Sabtiyye, for four consecutive weeks. In collaboration with “ACT Alliance” organization, this program ended at the Syrian Orthodox Archdiocese’s hall in Sabityeh.

160 Lebanese and Syrian women participated in this training and attended four weekly interactive sessions. All of them benefited from new information about cervical cancer, breast cancer, hepatitis virus prevention and first aid treatments. The participants took pre and post tests to evaluate their understanding of the information acquired. At the end of the training, they received hygiene and dignity kits.

Dr. Samir Chleweet, the trainer, mentioned the positive interaction with the participants who have improved their knowledge about new topics and corrected any false information they had.  One of the women said “I benefited a lot from this training and got new information about treatments and ways to protect my children from the hepatitis virus. I would like to thank the MECC for every awareness and training campaign they launch”. Another woman stated “we didn’t know that the cervical cancer vaccine is available and can protect us up to 90%. We also learned first aid techniques to treat burns”.
