Psychosocial Support Sessions to Treat Women’s Anxiety

The Service and Relief Department - Diakonia, Beirut office, at the Middle East Council of Churches, implemented psychosocial support sessions for a group of women, aiming at helping them overcome daily stress and restore their activity.

This support program was organized at a time Lebanon is facing, as other Middle Eastern countries, deepening crises at various levels, and the citizens are in need of support and assistance economically and socially, especially psychologically.

Noting that the participating women struggle with mental health issues of all types and severity due to loneliness, gender-based violence, cultural isolation from others and due to the trauma of their past situation. The sessions contributed in improving their well-being and developing their abilities to overcome life challenges.

The sessions included practical exercises and activities that address their psychosocial situations. The participants were accompanied by the social assistant and the person in charge of Our Lady Dispensary, affiliated to MECC and located in Sabtiyeh – Lebanon Mrs. Grace Boustany, and the specialized trainer Dr. Samir Chleweet.

This program was implemented at the dispensary in partnership with the international humanitarian organization Norwegian Church Aid - NCA.
