Launching of the “Homeland - Diaspora Cooperation – Ten Years Course of Action” Book

“Homeland - Diaspora Cooperation – Ten Years Course of Action”, was the title of Professor Hranush Hagopian’s  book  review,  which took place on Monday 15th April at Aztag News Paper’s Punig Hall   at  Shaghzoyan  Center in  Bourj-Hammoud – Lebanon.

 A Huge number of people assisted to the event expressing their loyalty, love and respect to a woman who for ten successive years was the Minister of Diaspora in Armenia from 2008 till 2018.

Professor Hagopian was the Chair of the Armenian Genocide Centenary  Committee of the Republic of Armenia & Diaspora, she had a huge contribution and effort in reuniting Diaspora Armenians to homeland Armenia with various projects and programs.   

Attendees were Reverend Dr. Paul Haidostian, President of the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East, President of Haigazian University in Lebanon, and President of the Middle East Council of Churches for the Evangelical Family, His Eminence Archbishop Shahe Panossian, the Primate of the Armenian Community in Lebanon, Mrs. Seta Hadeshian, the Associate Secretary General and Ecumenical Relations Officer at the Middle East Council of Churches, who was the main speaker at the ceremony, as well as  representatives of all Denominations of the Armenian community, and official, social and political figures.

Prof. Hranush Hakobyan is a mathematician, lawyer, political scientist, a Doctor-Professor of Law, Associate Professor, Professor at the State University of Gavar. She has graduated from the Yerevan State University in 1975, from Applied Mathematics Department, and later from Moscow Academy of Political Sciences in 1989, both degrees with high distinction.

Prof. Hranush Hakobyan has occupied many key positions: Deputy of the Supreme Council of the Arm SSR, a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Council (1986-1990), Deputy at the Supreme Council, Deputy Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme Council on Social and Healthcare Affairs (1990-1995), Member of the National Assembly, Head of the Standing Committee on Social, Healthcare and Environmental Affairs at the National Assembly (1995-1996).  Minister of Social Security, in 1996–1998

She has been a Member of the National Assembly, and also a member of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs,  Secretary of Parliamentary Group called People's Deputy. On 25 May 2003 Elected a Member of the National Assembly, Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Affairs. She also occupied the post of the Chair of Trustee of Yerevan, Cambridge-Yerevan, Armenia's Orphanages Fund, Co-chair of the Board of trustees of US-Armenia Health Care Center.

She is the author of several books and 25 research papers and hundreds of Laws.

She has been awarded with many honors. In 1986, with the order of “People’s Friendship”.   The Medal of “Mkhitar Kosh”, a major intellectual figure in Armenian life of the late 12th and early 13th centuries, author of the Armenian Law Book. The “Medal of Merit” By the French President.  The Medal for “Serving Armenia” from the President of Armenia and many more awards and honors.  

Hranush Hrant Hakobyan is an Armenian politician who is the longest-serving woman in the National Assembly of Armenia and among the only seven women members of Armenia's Parliament. She was the first Armenian woman to be directly elected into office by the Armenian people instead of being appointed by a political party.

In 2005, she sponsored Armenia's "gender-quota law" in order to encourage the participation and election of more women in the politics of Armenia.

The book launching event’s program consisted of three speakers Mr. Hampig Mardirossian, Editor of Khosnag  newspaper,  Mr. Barouyr Aghbashian journalist and writer,   Mr. Dikran Jinbashian former principal of Haig and Melankton Arslanian High School. All three delivered speeches of gratitude, recognition and Love.

The main speaker of the event was Mrs. Seta Hadeshian, who has been in her turn the chair of the Armenian Genocide Centenary Central Committee of Lebanon for ten years and organized the many featured activities of the Armenian Genocide Centennial in Lebanon.

Mrs. Hadeshian presented the three volume books, all the three together two thousand pages. The books were about the ten years’ activities, achievements, accomplishments of the Ministry of Diaspora in Armenia. Mrs. Hadeshian highlighted the countless and very rich features of Prof. Hagopian’s carrier, bridging the two planets, building relationship with diaspora Armenians, fastening and connecting the two entirely different entities by cooperation, collaboration, dialogue, understanding and love. 

Ms. Hadeshian ended her words in recognition to what Prof. Hagopian was able to achieve that the Diaspora Ministry was the cornerstone in fastening, interlacing and welding the two entities creating a strong entity of Diaspora and Homeland together, that the Ministry was able to reconcile the two different mindsets and became the guarantor of inseparability.
