MECC and WSCF in the Middle East
Sign a Cooperation Agreement to Strengthen Ecumenical Work and Empower Youth

As part of their commitment to strengthening Ecumenical partnership, particularly in the field of youth, the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) and the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) in the Middle East, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at supporting youth and enhancing their role in both the Church and society. The agreement was signed on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the MECC headquarters in Beirut.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Middle East Council of Churches by its Secretary General Professor Michel Abs, and on behalf of the World Student Christian Federation by its Regional Secretary Ms. Melissa Bridi, in the presence of the newly elected President of the WSCF Middle East Regional Committee Mr. Sarkis Magarian, as well as a team from the MECC General Secretariat.
The signing reaffirms both sides’ commitment to strengthening their cooperation and developing joint initiatives that serve youth and foster the Ecumenical spirit among them. It also seeks to promote the values of dialogue, love, and unity towards a more peaceful future.
For his part, the Secretary General Professor Michel Abs emphasized the importance of nurturing young people's role and developing their capacities, noting that investing in their talents is a cornerstone for the future of both the Church and society. He also affirmed that the World Student Christian Federation is an integral part of the Ecumenical work and the MECC journey, expressing his welcome for all forms of cooperation and joint action with the Federation.
In her turn, Ms. Melissa Bridi expressed her gratitude to the Middle East Council of Churches, underscoring the importance of uniting efforts in serving youth, particularly university students. She also highlighted future plans to expand areas of cooperation and launch programs that strengthen Ecumenical work, especially within universities.
Noting that the MECC media team also conducted an interview with the President of the WSCF Middle East Regional Committee Mr. Sarkis Magarian. The discussion focused on the WSCF mission and the objectives it seeks to achieve in building bridges among young people and promoting human dignity and social justice.
