Cairo, January 28, 2026

Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki, President of the Evangelical Community in Egypt, received Professor Michel Abs, Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), and an MECC delegation. It included Reverend Dr. Refaat Fikry, MECC Associate Secretary General, Professor Laure Abi Khalil, Coordinator of Social Cohesion, Dialogue, and Human Dignity Programs, and Journalist Lea Adel Maamary, Coordinator of Church Relations and Media at MECC.

The delegation was received by Ms. Samira Louka, Head of the Dialogue Sector at the Coptic Evangelical Organization, Sheikh Issam Wassef, Director of Public Relations at the Coptic Evangelical Organization, and Mr. Youssef Edward, Director of Media at the Coptic Evangelical Organization.

During the meeting, Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki welcomed Professor Michel Abs and the Council’s delegation, expressing his joy at the visit, which reflects the spirit of cooperation and integration among the Churches in the region. He emphasized the pivotal role of the Middle East Council of Churches in supporting the Ecumenical work and promoting the values ​​of Christian and social unity.

He also commended the Council's role in strengthening relations among Churches and fostering a spirit of love and cooperation. Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki mentioned that Evangelicals in Egypt are committed to supporting this path, and we see the Council as a prominent symbol of Christian unity in the Middle East.

He added, “We extend our support and assistance in all the Council's endeavors across various fields and programs that serve humanity and society. We are also proud of the progress that the Council is witnessing on all levels.”

For his part, Professor Michel Abs praised the active role of the Evangelical Churches in supporting the Ecumenical work, noting their historical contribution in the founding of the Middle East Council of Churches more than nine decades ago. He also praised the role played by Reverend Dr. Andrea Zaki on both the Ecclesiastical and social levels, in addition to his affection and respect for the Council's work.

Both sides discussed ways of cooperation with various Churches and Religions on many programs, projects, and seminars related to dialogue, combating hate speech, human dignity, and media, given that everyone is interested in these programs.

As well as, both sides presented their programs and future vision.

During the meeting, the MECC new publication, available on its digital platforms, was presented. This publication includes 23 seminars, roundtables, and online seminars organized by the Dialogue, Social Cohesion, and Rehabilitation of Human Dignity Program.
