On the first commemoration of the tragic 4 August Beirut Port explosion, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, addressed a letter to the Lebanese entitled “One Year Post-Explosion…?”. Through it he urged them the necessity of cooperation and solidarity as one population in order to overcome all the repercussions and difficulties resulting from this disaster aiming at building a better future.

The MECC Executive Committee held its online periodic meeting on Tuesday the 3rd of August 2021. The members of the committee, the Council teams in Beirut, Damascus, Amman, Jerusalem, and Cairo attended the meeting along with guests concerned with the Council’s work.

After the opening prayer, attendees addressed the tragedy of the Beirut port explosion, as it has been a year since the unfortunate accident without reaching any outcome, to determine responsibilities and achieve justice.

A raíz de una invitación de la organización «Arigatou International» dedicada a los niños, el Consejo de Iglesias del Oriente Medio participó en un webinar que se celebró con el fin de lanzar el «Manual para aprender a vivir juntos en la adolescencia». El MECC estuvo representado por su Secretario General, el Dr. Michel Abs, y por la coordinadora del Programa de Sanación de Traumas y Heridas y de Asesoramiento Espiritual del Departamento Teológico y Ecuménico, la hermana Emilie Tannous.

El Consejo de Iglesias del Oriente Medio sigue apoyando a los ciudadanos y residentes en el Líbano en medio del empeoramiento de la crisis y el aumento del estrés diario que los ha agotado psicológica y moralmente. Por lo tanto, puede ayudarles a recuperar su salud psicológica y su actividad habitual.
Sensibilización sobre la violencia de género
El Departamento de Ayuda y Servicio – Diakonia, oficina de Beirut, organizó 2 sesiones de sensibilización sobre la violencia de género para 40 mujeres y otras 2 sesiones para 40 hombres.

Dentro de una semana, el Líbano volverá a ver al día 4 de agosto con, nada más, que melancolía, ya que ha pasado un año con poco que mostrar, en cuanto a la investigación. Si no fuera por la ayuda de los socios internacionales del Líbano en estos tiempos oscuros, cerca de 300,000 libaneses seguirían sin hogar o desplazados. Mientras tanto, los líderes libaneses, los responsables de la toma de decisiones y los políticos se regodean en sus torres de marfil o nadan en sus piscinas privadas, riéndose de toda la riqueza que han acumulado a lo largo de los años.

Following an invitation from Arigatou International organization dedicated to children, the Middle East Council of Churches participated in a webinar that was held in order to launch the “Learning To Live Together manual to Middle Childhood”. MECC was represented by its Secretary General Dr. Michel Abs and the coordinator of the Trauma and Wound Healing and Spiritual Counseling Program of the Theological and Ecumenical Department Sister Emilie Tannous.

The Middle East Council of Churches continues its support to citizens and residents in Lebanon amidst the worsening crises and the increase of daily stress that have exhausted them psychologically and morally. Therefore, it can help them getting back their psychological health and usual activity.

Awareness on Gender-Based violence

The Relief and Service Department - Diakonia, Lebanon Office, organized 2 awareness sessions on gender-based violence for 40 women and 2 other sessions for 40 men.

In one week, Lebanon will revisit August 4 with nothing more than melancholy as a year had passed by with little to show, investigation-wise. If it weren’t for the assistance of Lebanon’s international partners throughout these dark times, about 300,000 Lebanese would be still without a home or displaced. Meanwhile Lebanese leaders, decision makers, and politicians bask in their ivory towers or swim in their private pools, giggling away at all wealth they had gathered over the years.

El Comité Medioambiental y Teológico del MECC está llevando a cabo una serie de visitas a los jefes de las Iglesias con el fin de informarles sobre el proyecto «Temporada de la Creación» 2021.

La delegación que representa al Comité visitó hoy, 22 de julio, al Patriarca Maronita de Antioquía y de todo el Oriente, Su Beatitud el Cardenal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai, en la residencia de verano del Patriarca en Diman–Líbano, y al Patriarca Ortodoxo Griego de Antioquía y de todo el Oriente y Presidente del Consejo para la Familia Ortodoxa de Antioquía, Su Beatitud Juan X, en Balamand–Líbano, en presencia del Vicario Patriarcal, Su Gracia el Obispo Ephraim Maalouli.

No creo que nadie haya adoptado o utilizado antes este concepto, ya que cuando hablamos de alguien que se quita la vida, solemos llamarlo suicidio.
El genocidio autoinfligido no es un suicidio, porque el que se suicida sólo comete su acto consciente de las consecuencias de sus actos y decide acabar con su vida por su propia voluntad, porque ha decidido que no quiere seguir existiendo por muchas razones que no se pueden discutir en este artículo.
El genocidio autoinfligido es ante todo una acción colectiva, llevada a cabo por un pueblo hacia sí mismo, y es el resultado de la ignorancia, la codicia y la corrupción.

El Secretario General Honorario del Consejo de Iglesias del Oriente Medio y el Vicario Patriarcal Maronita de Sarba, Líbano, S.E. Monseñor Paul Rouhana visitaron la sede del MECC en Beirut, Líbano, con el Padre Dr. Antoine Ahmar. En medio de un mundo plagado de guerras, conflictos, discursos de odio, violencia y rencor (...) y en una época manchada de crisis y conflictos interminables, incluso tras el estallido de una pandemia mortal (...) puede ser sorprendente que un joven diga: «Somos la Iglesia». Lo dice con fe directa, a pesar de que vive en una sociedad que acusa y condena a los jóvenes ahogándolos en un torbellino de desesperación y ansiedad.

Las Familias de las Víctimas: No a las inmunidades políticas a costa de la sangre de nuestros seres queridos

Para respaldar los esfuerzos del juez Bitar por investigar a los funcionarios, Amnistía Internacional ha pedido a las autoridades libanesas que levanten «inmediatamente» la inmunidad de los responsables en el caso de la explosión en el puerto de la capital, Beirut. Hasta el momento, el Parlamento, el Ministerio del Interior y el Ejército no han aprobado las peticiones del investigador judicial de levantar la inmunidad de tres diputados (ex ministros) y de investigar también a los responsables de seguridad y militares.
