Celebrating His Holiness Catholicos Aram I’s 30 Years of Pontifical Tenure in Greece

On Sunday morning, June 1, 2025, His Holiness Catholicos Aram I, Catholicos of the Armenian Church, Holy See of Cilicia, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC) presided over the Divine Liturgy at St. Jacob’s Church in Kokkinia, Greece, celebrated by His Grace Bishop Dajad Ashekian. Thanksgiving prayers were offered to honor the 30th anniversary of His Holiness’ tenure, led by His Eminence Archbishop Shahan Sarkissian, director of the Cilicia Library.

In his address, His Holiness welcomed His Grace Bishop Sahag Yemishian, the Prelate of the Armenian Prelacy of Greece, along with community representatives. He highlighted a new era of reorganization in the diocese and emphasized the need to revitalize the community based on Christ’s teachings about building a strong foundation.

His Holiness called for united action among the Armenian community in Greece through:

a) Gathering around the Armenian church,
b) Enhancing Armenian cultural heritage, particularly through the Armenian school,
c) Pursuing the rightful claims of our nation,
d) Energizing community reorganization efforts.

After the service, the attendees had the opportunity to approach His Holiness and receive his pontifical blessing, followed by a banquet in His Holiness’ honor.

During his brief pontifical visit to Greece, His Holiness Aram I met with the Executive Council of the prelacy, ARF Central Committee, and religious leaders, and presided over a cultural evening organized by Hamazkayin Educational and Cultural Society.
