The Church Metropolitans and Bishops Welcome His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Following His Return from Austria
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, arrived at the Papal Residence in Cairo, on the evening of Saturday 24 January 2026, returning from Austria after completing a two-week medical follow-up visit, during which His Holiness underwent a successful surgical procedure.
Upon His Holiness’ arrival at the Papal Residence, members of the Holy Synod of the Church were present to welcome him. His Holiness exchanged greetings with them, after which they accompanied him to the reception hall amid an atmosphere filled with affection, love, and joy at the safety and recovery of the father and shepherd.
During the meeting, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II briefed the Hierarchs on the course of the medical follow-up, which required surgical intervention, offering thanks to God for His grace and accompaniment throughout every step.
His Holiness noted that the physicians advised him to observe a period of convalescence following his return to Cairo until the end of February. He also expressed his deep gratitude for the outpouring of love shown by the metropolitans, bishops, priests, monks, nuns, deacons, servants, and the children of the Church everywhere, through phone calls, messages, and all means of communication.
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II further conveyed his sincere thanks and appreciation to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, for his phone call, as well as to the Prime Minister, ministers, His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Mufti, heads of authorities and institutions, and all national figures who expressed genuine love through their calls and messages.
His Holiness said: “We thank God for health, which is a blessing granted by God to us, so that we may invest it in doing good.”
