On the occasion of the New Year 2026, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church of the World, and Honorary President of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), invited their Excellencies the Ambassadors, Charge d’Affaires and Diplomatic Representatives to a Formal Reception at the Patriarchate in Bab Touma, on January 27, 2026.
The reception was attended by Ambassadors and Heads of mission in Syria, especially from: the Vatican, Hungary, Turkey, Sweden, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Japan, Algeria, Lybia, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Romania, Armenia, Norway, Abkhazia, Philippines, Indonesia, Cuba, Brazil, South Africa, and Somalia.
His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II welcomed their Excellencies and spoke about the effects of the recent events on the people of Syria. He hoped that this year will bring peace and prosperity to all. His Holiness welcomed the efforts of the friends of Syria in support of the Syrians.
