Danmission Delegation Visits MECC in Damascus to Strengthen Cooperation

A team from Danmission visited Diakonia and Social Service Department office of the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), in Damascus, on the 10th of August. The visit included an introductory session during which MECC team presented an overview of the projects they implemented in Damascus, Rural Damascus, as well as in Dara’a Governorate, in addition to programs and projects carried out in cooperation between the two organizations.

The MECC team also provided an overview of the mechanisms and channels used to communicate transparently with beneficiaries, including the work of the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CARM), as well as Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) mechanisms that accompany all stages of program implementation.

MECC and Danmission team also discussed the importance of the partnership between them in supporting the most vulnerable groups and contributing to meeting their basic needs.

The delegation met with a number of beneficiaries of the health awareness and PSS program for women, implemented by MECC in cooperation with Danmission. The delegation listened to the women’s views on the training course they had attended, the extent to which they had benefited from the health awareness and PSS sessions, and the impact of the knowledge and skills they had acquired on their lives and relationships with their families and communities

The delegation also took part in a field visit to the ongoing health awareness and PSS sessions for women with hearing difficulties, organized by MECC in cooperation with Danmission. The two teams followed up on the progress of the sessions, met with the beneficiaries, and listened to their views on the sessions and its impact.

The delegation’s visit lasted four days. During this period, accompanied by a team from the MECC, the delegation visited a number of beneficiaries of the livelihoods program in the cities of Jaramana and Saidnaya, as part of the small business support project implemented by MECC in cooperation with Danmission.

The two teams also visited a number of projects implemented by MECC under the “Restoration Fund for Rehabilitation of Faith-based Social Services & Religious Infrastructure Damaged During the Crisis in Syria” program.

The field visit also included a visit to the Our Lady of Saidnaya Monastery Orphanage School to follow up on the 9th grade remedial classes. The remedial classes were implemented jointly targeting 200 male and female students. The teams also learned about other activities carried out by the school.

The visit comes within the framework of the ongoing partnership and cooperation between MECC and Danmission. It aims to strengthen cooperation between the two sides, follow up on the implementation of joint programs and projects and their impact on beneficiaries, and contribute to further developing responses to humanitarian needs.
